Independent TD Mattie McGrath has extended his sincere congratulations to all those who participated in the 2018 Tidy Town competition. Deputy McGrath was speaking after the announcement of the 2018 results in the Helix in Dublin this afternoon:
“The Tidy Town competition is one of the truly great examples of community spirit in this Country. For the past 60 years it has energised thousands of individuals from every county to bring out the best in their own localities.
This year was no exception and it was a delight to see so many Gold, Silver and Bronze awards given to Tipperary communities with Gold medals being awarded to Clonmel, Kilsheelan, Emly, Birdhill and Terryglass; a Silver Medal for Silvermines, Bronze Medals for Cahir, Roscrea and Nenagh with Killusty and Clonmel winning special awards. Villages across the County have increased their points on the results of last year which is also highly commendable.
From visiting Tidy Towns Groups and projects across the County, I recognise the amazing hard work and dedication that needs to take place to make the event the success that it is. The sense of happiness and justifiable pride that all the communities have is palpable and the spirit of “Meitheal” is well and truly alive.
Each year we see the huge reserves of local pride that exist in our communities and it is a very encouraging sign to see that pride growing from strength to strength,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
