Independent TD Mattie McGrath has the welcomed the decision of C&C Ltd to honour the terms of a 2009 redundancy agreement for workers at the Bulmers processing plant in Clonmel. Deputy McGrath made his comments after Unite members voted to call off planned industrial action following intensive engagement at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC):
“The last thing any of the workers wanted was all out industrial action at a company that is already undergoing various levels of instability in terms of concerns about the future viability of the plant.
To that extent I am delighted that that the company has agreed to pay the affected Unite Trade Union member in accordance with the 2009 agreement.
I have been engaged in a lengthy process with C&C CEO Mr Stephen Glancey in an attempt to extract explicit guarantees around the employment position at the Bulmers plant.
It is something that we all need to work in partnership to achieve and to that extent the decision by the company to honour and respect its worker’s rights is a welcome start,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
