“Frustration for Tipp schools as Minor Works Grant funding is delayed,” Mattie McGrath

01-12-2017

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has called on the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, to clarify what is the delay in allocating funding to Tipperary schools under the Minor Works Grant Scheme. Deputy McGrath was speaking after several school Principals contacted him to express their severe frustration and anger at the fact that payments have yet to be made:

“The delay in allocating this funding is having a significant and detrimental impact on the ability of schools to function.

The Principals are telling me that it is rapidly becoming an intolerable situation and they simply cannot comprehend why the Department is failing to see the urgency here.

When you add the delays with this Scheme to the cuts in the schools Capitation Grants, it becomes very clear that something must be done immediately to resolve the situation.

I will continue to intensively lobby Minister Bruton and the Department and urge them in the strongest possible terms to escalate the allocation of funding under the Minor Works Grant Scheme,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
