Independent TD Mattie McGrath has welcomed confirmation that the former Lisheen Mine site is set for major renewal following the allocation of €4.5 million for a National Bio-economy Facility on the grounds. Deputy McGrath was speaking after the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphrey, announced that the €4.5 million will be paid out to assist the project under the Regional Enterprise Development Fund:
“This is a marvellous announcement that will provide a much needed boost not only to the local economy but to the entire county.
The fact that provision is being made for the development to include a state-of-the-art bio-processing facility will give an absolutely clear signal that Tipperary can compete with best of them if it is supported in a fair and objective manner.
I attended several of the Task Force meetings that were considering this development and it was clear to see that there was a golden opportunity that needed to be grasped.
I want to commend everyone involved in this project for the vision and their commitment in bringing the plan to fruition.
We have the foundation now to go forward and develop this project into a world class enterprise and that alone is a great piece of Christmas cheer for the economy of the entire county,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
