“Cahir’s absence from Tourism plan is incomprehensible,” McGrath

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has called on the Minister for Tourism Pascal Donohue to address the shock and confusion being felt

in Cahir County Tipperary after the Heritage Town was inexplicably excluded from the Ancient East tourist initiative. The initiative’s stated aim is to significantly boost visitor numbers, revenue and jobs by bringing together the region’s 5,000 years of history and heritage for a wider international and national audience:

“There can be no question about this; Cahir Town and District must be immediately included in the Tourist Trail for the South East.

We have already seen the phenomenal success of the Wild Atlantic Way and the benefits that has brought to local economies across the western region.

Cahir Town which is rich in early Christian and Norman history has a significant role to play in highlighting the heritage splendours of the South-East.

It should not be seen as a stopping station on the way to or from Cashel or Lismore but should be valued and marketed in its own right.

I will be communicating directly with the Minister to have the glaring oversight immediately rectified and to have the town of Cahir and surrounding district properly situated among the tourism splendours of our region,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
